Galaxy map

Spacy's universe is built from three nested layers: galaxy, solar system, orbital position. Every slot is identified by a unique coordinate in the format galaxy:system:position (e.g. 1:5:3).

Universe structure

  • — galaxies
  • — solar systems per galaxy
  • — orbital positions per system
  • Total: — orbital slots in the universe

Coordinates

Every planet, debris field and fleet mission targets a position in the format galaxy:system:position. Positions are numbered 1 to —, position 1 being closest to the star (hottest) and position — the farthest (coldest).

Position content

Each orbital position in a solar system can hold one of the following three elements, and only one at a time:

  • A planet: colonized by a player, or uninhabited and free to colonize
  • A debris field: generated by combat, harvested with a Salvager
  • Nothing: the position is empty and remains traversable by fleets

Position properties

Each position has a fixed orbital radius that determines its planet zone (Scorched, Hot, Temperate, Cold, Frozen, Outer), its average temperature and its habitability. Detailed formulas are covered in the "Temperature & habitability" section.

System discovery

On the galaxy map, each system is visible through its location and star type, but remains locked until discovered: its planets, owners and debris fields stay hidden. Discovery is permanent once gained, and is triggered in two ways:

  • Reconnaissance mission: send a Recon Drone to the system. On arrival, the entire system is revealed (star, 15 positions, planets, owners, debris fields).
  • Colonizing a planet in the system: colonization automatically reveals all 15 positions without any prior reconnaissance.

Important restriction

While a system is undiscovered, no other mission (Attack, Transport, Deploy, Harvest, or Espionage on a specific planet) can be sent there. To spy on a specific planet, you must first discover the system that contains it.

Note on expeditions

Points of Interest visited by expeditions are never hosted on an orbital position 1–—. They live at free floating coordinates within a galaxy or at universe scale, never overlapping with existing planets or debris fields. See the "Expeditions" section for full details.

Visual legend

Each layer of the galaxy map and solar system view uses a dedicated animation or symbol. Here is what you see in-game and exactly what it means.

Galaxy view

Sector boundariesDashed circles that mark out a galaxy's sectors. The sector name appears above once zoom is high enough.
Colony beaconGreen halo emitting three successive rings every 3 seconds. Marks each of your colonized planets.
Recent presenceAmber thermal footprint with four embers flickering out of phase. Signals that a player has opened one of their planets in this system within the past 4 hours (recent connected activity).
Common Point of InterestLight blue halo with two slow pulses and a breathing icon. Common-rarity expedition target.
Rare Point of InterestSame animation as common POIs, in purple. Rare-rarity expedition — upgraded rewards.
Epic Point of InterestGolden pulsing halo. Epic-rarity expedition — the highest possible payout.
Red dwarfSmall red disc. The dimmest star — habitable zone sits very close.
Orange dwarfOrange disc. Mid-luminosity star, balances habitability and solar output.
Yellow starMedium yellow disc. Stellar baseline — same type as our Sun.
White starBright white disc. High luminosity — excellent solar energy production.
Blue giantLarge bright blue disc. The brightest star, far-out habitable zone, strong thermal activity.
Your colony ringShort dashed green circle around a star. Signals that the system hosts one of your colonies regardless of zoom level.
Search resultYellow ring blinking at 1 second. Highlights the system found via the search bar or a report link.
Fleet in transitDashed route between origin and destination, solid trail up to the current position, flagship icon and pulsing ring. Stroke style varies with the propulsion mode.

Solar system view

Planetary orbitThin dashed circle around the star. Materializes a planet's orbital trajectory.
Habitable zoneTranslucent green band bracketed by two dashed lines. Marks where a planet can be classified as Habitable based on stellar luminosity.
Central starColored radial halo around the stellar body. When the star is selected, a dashed ring rotates around it.
Colonized planetSolid green ring around the planet. Indicates a player owns it.
Planet being colonizedOrange dashed ring with scrolling dashoffset. A colonization fleet is still inbound.
Planetary debrisTwo counter-rotating orange debris rings (3 s and 4 s). Present in orbit of a planet that experienced recent combat.
Selected planetWhite dashed ring whose offset scrolls in 1 second. Confirms the active planet of the info panel.
Report targetYellow ring blinking at 1 second. Highlights a planet targeted by a report or navigation link.
Asteroid beltWide gray ring with short dashes. Procedural mining resource located between two planetary orbits.
Fleet (system view)Curved trajectory avoiding the star, trail to the current position, ship icon and pulsing ring. Behaves like the galaxy view but at system scale.
